COLLABORATION
Educational therapists seek to understand the whole child in order to provide the best intervention for the child’s learning difficulties. They value the contributions of other adults involved in meeting a student’s learning and behavioral needs, including parents, medical personnel, psychologists, other therapists, and school personnel.
Collaboration may take many forms from simply exchanging reports, to building more extensive relationships with others, depending on the need. Below are some ways that 3C Learning, LLC, may collaborate with others caring for the child who is an educational therapy or Lexercise dyslexia therapy client. In all cases, such collaboration requires that parents or guardians sign appropriate releases permitting professionals to exchange information.
Parent Guidance
When students are enrolled in educational therapy or Lexercise dyslexia therapy, regular fees for these services include brief conversations regarding the student’s progress during sessions and instruction for skill practice (AKA homework) during the week.
Sometimes situations arise, either during educational therapy or in other settings, that the parent has questions or concerns about. It may be beneficial for the parent to consult with the educational therapist to discuss those concerns and brainstorm solutions. When an extended conversation is desired, 3C Learning, LLC, will schedule an appointment to talk with parents about these concerns. Strategies for handling the situation, learning resources on the topic, and/or referrals to other professionals may all be part of potential solutions generated. This consultation is offered for a regular hourly fee.
Homeschool Support
When the educational therapy student is homeschooled, parents may have questions about curriculum or its implementation while the student is in educational therapy. Marie has had over 20 years of experience as a homeschooler and can provide encouragement and help brainstorm solutions to common challenges in homeschooling. An hourly consultation fee is charged for this service.
Consultation with Private Professionals
For educational therapy or dyslexia therapy clients, 3C Learning, LLC, is willing to consult with other private professionals involved in a student’s care. This may help the educational therapist better understand the student’s needs and to collaboratively generate solutions to challenges that affect the student’s performance in the educational therapy session. When contacts are brief, there is no additional charge for this collaboration service. If an extended conversation is required, an hourly consultation fee is charged.
Communication and Advocacy in the School Setting
3C Learning, LLC, is willing to assist parents of educational therapy and Lexercise dyslexia therapy clients in communicating with teachers and IEP teams at school regarding the student’s needs. This may take the form of exchanging information with teachers about a student’s progress and collaborating regarding goals or strategies for student success. It may also take the form, at the parents’ invitation, of participating in IEP meetings and assisting them to advocate for services and accommodations their child needs to be successful in the classroom.
Marie has received training in how to advocate in school settings for students with dyslexia. She takes a collaborative approach and aims to build bridges with school personnel that will benefit students. When the child’s needs are complex and/or parents and school personnel have serious disagreement about special education matters, Marie recommends that parents seek out the services of a professional advocate or special education attorney to help them resolve those differences. She can recommend professionals in Southeast Michigan.
